At SXSW
03.14.10
Ok, this post will be slightly different, as usual, because I’m writing about my first day at SXSW. For those of you who don’t know what SXSW is; it’s a conference in Austin TX for geeks, yes I said it, “geeks”.
First off let me begin by saying how much I appreciate the community I get to be a part of. I got to meet a load of very cool, smart, and interesting folks today.
Enough blabber
It has been truly inspiring from my first session at 9:30am on web fonts to Cogaoke until 2:00am, which was actually 3:00am but that’s just too technical for me.
Check out my photos here on flicker now.
Instead of covering everything I did on my first day I believe I will simply write about my “firsts” at SXSW.
First Registration
When I arrived at the convention center at 7:45 in the morning, being new, I got in line, which at the time I didn’t know was for volunteers. Eventually I got my badge and was on my way… after getting in the right line, I was third by the way.
The first panel I ever attended at SXSW
The first panel was great! I got to sit next to an amazing woman, Becky Gibson, IBM, who I came to find is part of the ARIA working group for the W3C.

Rodger Black, started the panel off with a quick intro and then dove straight into the topic at hand, web fonts. The panel consisted of great speakers and evangelists Jeffery Veen, Rodger, Stephen Coles, Bert Bos, and David Black.
Each panelists had something new and exciting to talk about, specifically, standards and new services like typekit, a way to embed real fonts on your website today.
Food
My first meal cost me $10.25, totally over kill for a bottle of water and a 6″ sub but I’m not complaining.
My first party
Finally, the first party I went to at SXSW as Cogaoke. I had a blast and got to meet some really talented people like Emily, Jason, Chris, Jeremy and so many more. Overall, I had a really great time!
